The Dubai International Motor Show<\/a> always grabs the attention of the manufacturers of the world\u2019s top luxury car. However, this year witnesses a surge of roughly 100 new models.<\/p>\n

Britain\u2019s Aston Martin showed off the CC-100 Speedster concept car, built to celebrate its 100th anniversary.<\/p>\n

Neil Slade, General Manager for Aston Martin in the Middle East & North Africa, explained: \u201cOnly two of these were ever built.\u201d<\/p>\n

For the super-rich, exclusivity is a selling point. Illustrated by the Hennessey Venom GT which is spectacularly fast and limited edition rare.<\/p>\n

As Don Goldman, boss of US based Hennessey Performance Engineering, said: \u201cWe\u2019re limiting the production to around 30 cars<\/a>, and we built 10 as of this week. This car that\u2019s behind me right here was actually built for a customer in Bahrain, that\u2019s where he lives.\u201d<\/p>\n

Luxury car sales carry on rapidly expand in the Middle East market.<\/p>\n

Bentley said its dealership in the United Arab Emirates has the biggest sales of any in the world and the UAE has become Aston Martin\u2019s largest market in the less than one year since it opened its Dubai showroom.<\/p>\n

The earliest mention of Dubai is in 1095 AD, and the earliest recorded settlement in the region dates from 1799. Dubai was formally established on the 9th June 1833 by Sheikh Maktoum bin Butti Al-Maktoum when he persuaded around 800 members of his tribe of the Bani Yas<\/a>, living in what was then the Second Saudi State<\/a> to follow him to the Dubai Creek<\/a> by the Abu Falasa clan of the Bani Yas. It remained under the tribe’s control when the United Kingdom agreed to protect the Sheikhdom in 1892 and joined the nascent United Arab Emirates upon independence in 1971 as the country’s second emirate. Its strategic geographic location made the town an important trading hub and by the beginning of the 20th century, Dubai was already an important regional port.<\/p>\n

Today, Dubai has emerged as a cosmopolitan<\/a> metropolis that has grown steadily to become a global city<\/a> and a business and cultural hub of the Middle East and the Persian Gulf region. It is also a major transport hub for passengers and cargo. Although Dubai’s economy<\/a> was historically built on the oil industry<\/a>, the emirate’s Western-style model of business drives its economy with the main revenues now coming from tourism<\/a>, aviation, real estate, and financial services. Dubai has recently attracted world attention through many innovative large construction projects and sports events. The city has become symbolic for its skyscrapers and high-rise buildings<\/a>, such as the world’s tallest Burj Khalifa<\/a>, in addition to ambitious development projects including man-made islands<\/a>, hotels<\/a>, and some of the largest shopping malls<\/a> in the region and the world. This increased attention has also highlighted labor and human rights<\/a> issues concerning the city’s largely South Asian workforce. Dubai’s property market experienced a major deterioration in 2008\u20132009 following the financial crisis of 2007-2008<\/a>,\u00a0 but is making a gradual recovery with help coming from neighboring emirates.<\/p>\n

As of 2012, Dubai is the 22nd most expensive city in the world, and the most expensive city in the Middle East. Dubai has also been rated as one of the best places to live in the Middle East, including by American global consulting firm Mercer<\/a> who rated the city as the best place to live in the Middle East in 2011.<\/p>\n
