\u201cWe are urging parents or people reversing their car to cross check road emptiness before reversing to avoid killing an innocent child who is unaware of the danger surrounding them. We want zero accidents occurring this year and the coming years,\u201d said Lt Col bin Darwish.<\/p>\n
January witnessed many similar incidents. For instance, a four-year-old girl was hit by her father\u2019s car after he reversed into her. Another incident, a one-year-old boy was killed when he was accidentally run over by his uncle.<\/p>\n
Nargis Al Yamahi, a sociologist reported to the local police as the following: \u201cI have personally witnessed the death of a one-year-old boy who was run over by his aunt mistakenly, leading his mum and dad to fall hysterical. Guilt surrounds a person who unintentionally runs over another person.\u201d<\/p>\n
Apart from the main case, Lt Col bin Darwish said a number of other accidents took place the previous year as a result of pedestrians suddenly crossing roads at unauthorized points, or when people drove under the effects of medicine, alcohol or if they were tired.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have found that many pedestrians chose not to walk a few steps towards a safe pedestrian crossing and choose to cross from unauthorized areas, endangering their lives,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have conducted a campaign \u2013 Safety of Pedestrians is our Mission \u2013 and we have distributed awareness pamphlets to pedestrians to warn them from random crossing.\u201d

Khalid III’s brother, Sultan bin Mohamed Al-Qasimi<\/a>, an author and historian, came to power. In 1987 Sultan’s brother Abdulaziz staged a coup while Sultan was abroad. Huge state debt was stated as the reason. UAE President Zayed vehemently denounced the coup, and a deal was reached for Sultan to be restored, while Abdulaziz would become the Deputy Ruler. Sultan, however, dismissed Abdulaziz quite quickly. In 1999, the Crown Prince (Sultan’s eldest son) died of drug addiction while on vacation in their palace in England.
