The report released by authorities clearly shows that <em>speeding motorists caused the most number of fatal road accidents while a large number of accidents were recorded on highways<\/em>. The overall road safety situation slightly improved in 2018 as compared to 2017, particularly after the implementation of the new traffic law.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The new traffic law was implemented in the UAE on <strong>July 1, 2017<\/strong>, in an effort to improve the road safety situation. A number of new traffic rules were introduced while the <strong>penalties for dangerous traffic violations were revised in the new traffic law<\/strong>. These changes were made to discourage motorists from committing dangerous violations as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sellanycar.com\/cars-related\/traffic-problems-uae-roundup-2016\/\">2016 was a bad year<\/a> for the road safety situation in the UAE.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The traffic report of 2017 and 2018 shows a gradual improvement in the state of road safety, however, the <em>reckless driving behavior of motorist still remained a major concern for traffic authorities<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">Details of the New Traffic Report Released by RAK Police<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As many as 91 motorists lost their lives in fatal road accidents recorded in Ras Al Khaimah during the last two years. However, in 2018, a marginal decrease was observed in road deaths as compared to 2017. The RAK Police has released details about the major reasons behind fatal road accidents recorded during this period.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Given below are the major findings of the new report:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><strong>46 Road deaths<\/strong> <strong>were recorded in 2017<\/strong> while <strong>45 motorists were killed<\/strong> in road accidents during <strong>2018<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>9 Fatal road accidents <\/strong>were recorded on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed road in 2017.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Women drivers<\/strong> were involved in <strong>6 fatal road accidents<\/strong> <strong>in 2017<\/strong>, however, only <strong>two fatal accidents<\/strong> involved women drivers <strong>in 2018<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Emirati motorists <\/strong>were involved in <strong>13 road accidents<\/strong> in which 13 motorists lost their lives during 2017. <strong>In 2018, 18 such accidents were recorded<\/strong> in which 16 people were killed.<\/li>\n<li><strong>2 Fatal accidents were recorded in inclement weather<\/strong> during 2017 as compared to <strong>none in 2018<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>15 Road accidents were recorded on highways<\/strong> in 2017 as compared to <strong>11 such accidents recorded in 2018<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>19 people<\/strong> <strong>sustained minor injuries<\/strong> in 2017 while <strong>23 people<\/strong> sustained such injuries <strong>in 2018<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>As many as <strong>36 fatal road accidents were caused by speeding motorists<\/strong> during the last two years in Ras Al Khaimah. It was the most number of accidents caused by any traffic violation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Speeding stood out as the major reason behind most of the fatal road accidents recorded during the last two years. This is a worrying sign for traffic authorities who have left no stone unturned in eliminating the risk of speeding-related accidents. The <em>efforts made by authorities have helped improve the overall road safety situation, yet a lot still needs to be done to curb the menace of over-speeding<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">Traffic Penalties for Speeding Violations in the UAE<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The traffic report of the last two years has clearly revealed that speeding is still a major reason behind fatal road accidents in Ras Al Khaimah.
