A Dh100 million underground parking facility was opened in Al Ain yesterday which it is hoped will ease residents’ traffic woes.<\/p>\n
The 9,000 square metre multi-storey Mawaqif building, which took 18 months to build, has 424 parking bays and is located on Zayed Bin Sultan Street, close to the city’s key cultural and historic attractions, including Al Nakheel Oasis, Al Ain National Museum, Al Murabba Fort, the Old Souq, and the fruit and vegetable market.<\/p>\n
Parking will be free for the first six months, after which regular Mawaqif fees of Dh2 per hour and Dh15 for a day will be charged.<\/p>\n
A parking-guide system will flash green if spots are free and red if occupied. The building has four lifts and is fitted with CCTV and fire-safety equipment.<\/p>\n
“The project is part of the municipality’s endeavours to attain Al Ain 2030 Vision by promoting the city’s unique aesthetic features,” said Suhail Thani Al Muhairi, head of Infrastructure and Municipal Assets Sector at Al Ain City Municipality.<\/p>\n
