Recently qualified drivers can now put a sticker on their car windows warning other motorists that they have only just passed their test.<\/p>\n
The Roads and Transport Authority has devised a series of \u201cNew Driver\u201d stickers that will be sold to a trainee once he or she obtains their driving license.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe idea of placing of the New Driver sticker was conceived after conducting a survey among driving learners of various ages, nationalities and categories who expressed their wish to see such a sticker placed on the vehicle once they are issued with driving licenses,\u201d said Sultan Al Marzooki, the director of RTA Licensing.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is believed that such stickers would alert other motorists about them, and accordingly offer them a chance to implement what they have learnt during training and familiarize with the external driving environment. The stickers will remain fixed and displayed on vehicles for a period of six months maximum.\u201d<\/p>\n
The scheme has been implemented after being observed in practice in countries such as the UK, Japan and Australia.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have opted to apply it here in Dubai in an effort to promote the security and traffic safety on roads,\u201d said Mr Al Marzooki.<\/p>\n
\u201cAffixing such stickers onto vehicles is optional for novice drivers, and they are sold at nominal fees, reflecting the costs of printing by driving institutes.\u201d<\/p>\n
A sticker that is placed on the rear window of the car costs Dh5, while a magnetic sticker on the back of the vehicle will cost Dh15.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
